FootyRecall started with the aim of testing football lovers around the world to see how much they actually remember.
The legends of the game, the high scorelines, famous shirt numbers, final league tables and those random matches that you can never forget. We wanted to turn all of that, and more, into specific games and questions you can actually play.
FootyRecall is built and run by two football lovers. Originally, we built it for ourselves to play against each other, but now it has grown into multiple games and categories that we can share with fans around the world.
The aim was to be different from traditional sites. It is much more about memory and reliving your favourite moments… even if it takes a while to remember the answers.
Why we built FootyRecall
Some of the best football conversations, whether it's with your dad, your mates or a stranger down the pub, usually start with a question.
“Who played up front that day?”
“Who wore number 7 before him?”
“Where did they finish that season?”
“Surely he scored more than that?”
That's really what FootyRecall is built around. We wanted to create short, fun games that make you recall your football knowledge from across the years of the Premier League. To make you think and relive those moments, not just answer a simple question you have seen many times before.
Sometimes you'll know the answer straight away. Sometimes you'll be absolutely certain you're right and still get it wrong. That's half the fun.
How FootyRecall works
Each FootyRecall game focuses on a different part of football memory.
Missing Men uses real starting XIs and asks you to rebuild the players missing from a fixture. League Ladder tests how well you remember final league tables. Higher or Lower compares real Premier League player statistics, while Who Wore It? challenges you to rebuild the history of a particular shirt number at a club.
The games are built using historical football data. As we add more seasons, clubs and game combinations, we continue to review and expand the data behind each game.
What football does FootyRecall cover?
Right now, FootyRecall is primarily focused on the Premier League era.
That gives us more than three decades of matches, players, clubs, tables and moments to build games around, from the biggest games in history to who wore the number 17 shirt for Arsenal back in 2011.
As we continue to grow the site, we want to expand into more leagues and competitions, as well as introduce new games along the way.
What we want FootyRecall to become
Our aim is pretty simple. We want FootyRecall to be somewhere football fans can come back to every day, spend a few minutes testing what they remember and hopefully learn something new along the way. We want people to spend time sharing knowledge with their families and friends and reliving their favourite moments together.
Something you can send into the group chat, compare scores on, argue about afterwards and then come back to the next day.
We're always thinking of new games, adding more football data and looking for different ways to test football knowledge without losing the simple idea the site started with.
An independent football project
FootyRecall is an independent football website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or officially connected to the Premier League, its clubs, football governing bodies or any of the players featured within our games and articles.
Team names, player names, competition information and statistics are used for informational and game purposes only.
Help us build it
FootyRecall is still growing, so feedback genuinely helps us.
If you have an idea for a game, think something on the site could be improved or just want to send us your score, get in touch.
If you spot an incorrect statistic, line-up, league position or other piece of football data, use Report a Bug and tell us what needs checking.
A lot of what FootyRecall becomes will come from the people actually playing it.
